Although there is some overlap between the areas of Clinical and Health Psychology and Neuropsychology, they differ in their focus and approaches.
Clinical and Health Psychology assesses, diagnoses and treats a wide range of mental and emotional health issues including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse and health-related stress. Clinical and health psychologists use a variety of techniques and therapies to help people deal with these issues, including cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and group therapy.
Neuropsychology focuses on the relationship between the brain and human behavior, namely in terms of brain injuries, diseases and disorders that affect cognition, emotions and behavior. Neuropsychologists use tests and assessments to measure brain function and identify any cognitive deficiencies. They also focus on the development of treatment plans to rehabilitate brain function in individuals who have suffered brain injuries or other neurological diseases.
In summary, while Clinical and Health Psychology focuses on mental and emotional health problems, Neuropsychology focuses on the relationship between the brain and behavior.
